So A. posted a thing about Miss Universe national costumes and I made the mistake of looking up the 2011 contestants.
I have no idea what Miss Canada Chelsae Durocher’s background is nor does a quick google search yield anything, and I’m certainly not an expert on cultural appropriation or indigenous struggles but… a war bonnet? On a woman? In a beauty pageant? As a “National Costume”? “National”? “Costume”?
Really?

How about a war bonnet and whatever that design on her dress is supposed to be as a “national costume”? Yikes.

The inaccuracies are painful.  Of course, the effect is enhanced by the treatment that the First Nations get at the hands of the Canadian government.
